Group Leader – Music and Drama

Lights, camera…Music! Nottingham Mencap is hiring a group leader for Drama and Music sessions for our day services!

Nottingham Mencap runs a thriving, progressive day service for adults with learning disabilities and autism. We support over 100 individuals throughout the week with up to 50 people of all abilities attending each day, taking part in accessible and engaging sessions for all abilities.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to show that performing arts are open to everyone through leading our drama and music sessions. You’ll engage with the people at Nottingham Mencap, being guided by what they want to achieve and supporting them get there. This could be anything from helping them to learn to play an instrument, rhythm games and producing shows through to improv and scriptwriting sessions.

You’ll bring your experience of working with adults with SEN to the role as well as musical and theatrical talent. Patience, humour and creativity are a must as well as a drive to always consider how the sessions could be improved. You will have autonomy over session planning, the support of other Group Leaders and the Day Service management team. In addition to this, staff have access to an on-site gym and we provide a free lunch every day.

Location: This role is split between our Clarence Street service in Sneinton (Monday, Tuesday and Friday) and our Wilford service at St Wilfrid’s church hall (Wednesday).

Hours: Our working hours are 9.00am – 3.30pm.

Salary: £14.56 per hour (28,013 FTE)

We know we are looking for a unique individual and are happy to consider splitting this role into two opportunities with one Group Leader focussed on music and another taking the lead on drama so if your skills and experience are suited to one area outlined above, we would welcome your application - just be sure to let us know which area you are interested in when you apply in the cover letter section.

Support and Enablement Worker - Befriending and Weekends

We are looking for caring and supportive people to become an enablement worker with us. We’re particularly interested in people who can work after school, evenings and weekends. Availability through school holidays is a bonus too as many of the people we support are of school age and require support through school breaks.

We need people to support children, young people and adults on a 1-2-1 basis in the community, accessing community services and supporting the person to achieve their specific aims (such as socialising, travel training, healthy living etc).

There will also be opportunities to work as part of a team over the weekend supporting a group of young people within our building and in the community. For more information please see the M8’s and Gener8 section under ‘services’.

Pay: £12.60

There is a minimum age of 18 to do this role.
